How many miles on new engine before racing it?

Ahh, the old break-her-in-easy-vs-hard debate. I vote for easy with BRIEF moments of full throttle accel, and hard engine breaking...maybe one or two per heat cycle. You have to be carefull not to heat things up too much and glaze your cylinder walls/rings.

I bought a brand new ZX6-R a while ago, and it got a lot of the members talking about break in procedures in themotorsports club im in. One of the guys, who is a mechanic at the local Porsche dealership, said that when they rebuild a motor, whether its NA or FI, the break in procedure is to put the car on the dyno, and run the engine at WOT for 30 min, then shut the car off and let it cool. That is the whole break in procedure. I didnt exactly do that with the bike, but a lot of the guys were terrified to even let him borrow their car for a while.

I've run the **** out of my rebuilt 306. Using dino oil provides a little more friction and supposedly helps the rings seat better. I was told not to switch out to syntheti****il 1000-1500 miles.
I'm probably around 200 or so right now (I should have more, but...long story). Anyway, it seems to be running really well. That's all I got......

Hmm... seems like theres several different theories here. I've only heard of starting with regular motor oil the first few oil changes to let the valves seat. Then swtiching to a full synthetic after 1000 miles? I dunno for sure, just what I've read.

I don't think oil is going to make a difference. People have mastered the art of the 5.0 and many of its brethren without its use and although it may provide a difference over time - break in will be little, if at all affected IMO
I always learned to run it to 2000 RPM until it heats up. Run it normally up to cruise speed, nail it and engine brake several times. Let it fully cool, drive it through several normal heat cycles and youre good to go after another LOF.
More than one way to skin a cat, so they say........
