SN95 is an in-house "codename" for the vehicles platform

S = Specialty (vehicle segment in the auto market)
N = North America (location of project engineers)
95 = Consecutive Project Number

Just a little addition

Fox - '79-'93
SN95 - '94-'04
S197 - '05-?

Well actually in 99-04, it is still considared the 4th generation mustang, the SN-95.

the 'new edge' is a style reference in which case 94-98 could be referenced as Fox-4
