Default AOD help/advice!

Alright well, I wanted to put an 8.8 rear with 4.10s in this weekend but after a talk with some of my friends, looks like its not happening. They were telling me that 4.10s are too much for my stock AOD with 77k miles on it.

My one friend recommended a shift kit to help a little bit, but other than buying a whole new tranny all together, what are some mods that will strengthen my AOD?

And back to the shift kit thing....I posted awhile back about them, but didn't really get a clear answer....if shift kits like the transgo tear apart your tranny, which ones improve the AODs performance, without taking such a toll? I've heard baumann is pretty good through another member of the site, any others?

Thanks again guys!

Ha thanks guys....I wasn't sure if they were right or just didn't want me to get 4.10s cuz my car would be kinda quick!

They'll soon find out why u don't mess with 5.0s!

Disturbed: thanks for the AOD build up, I was actually looking at a valve body from lentech which seems to be a very reliable and proven.

As for stalls and shift kits, any brands you guys recommend, I honestly have no idea?

If you get a nice aftermarket valve body you will not need a shift kit. Also, for the converter Edge has a very good reputation and so does Lentech. Just buy everything from them.

Like everyone else has said, your friends are stupid. My aod with a transgo shift kit has 138K miles. I've never heard of a transgo shift kit tearing up a transmission before and I don't have any problems with mine. FWIW, if I had to do it over again I would have got a manual valve body from Lentech instead. I'm with 88blueGT, go with Lentech and Edge.

I swear I thought the last time I posted about the transgo many people, and adder imparticalar (I may be wrong though) said that the transgo shiftkit hurts your tranny for some reason, can't remember off hand.

BlackLX: sorry but I don't know too much about cars yet, especially transmissions. What's different about a manual valvebody as opposed to what you purchased. If you or anyone else could clear up this thing about "manual valve bodies" that'd be a big help.

Thanks again

www.lentechautomatics.comInvest in a manual valve body, shift kit, 3k stall, 4.10 gears, rebuild your trac lok, and the improvement will be crazy!!! Your cars still a virgin..... time to pop the cherry
