Default Brake Booster and Master Cyclinder

Car is a 1983 Mustang with a 5.0 5-speed. Brakes are shot, when I depress the brake pedal, nothing happens it just goes straight to the floor. Its not the calipers, just checked those. So it would be my assumtion that its either a master cyclinder or the brake booster. What am I looking at for this kind of job, like how long and difficulty level. I dont really care how long it takes, I am going to do it, I would just like to know what I am up against. Also any input on other possibilities on what the problem may be would be appreciated. Thank you.

it sounds like the master cylinder, but could be both. more than likely just the master tho. its easy. take the lines off, unbolt it from the booster and pull it off.

The booster is NOT gonna cause your symptoms! have you looked at the wheel cylinders or perhaps a rusted through brake line. Look for a leak along the lines under the car.

It doesnt leak fluid at all. It was fine for the first 2 1/2 years I drove it, and then it just started getting worse. It was harder and harder to apply the brakes, and I got less and less stopping power until there was nothing. I checked the Calipers, they are fine. I checked the rotors, they are in spec. I checked the pads, they are practically brand new. My first thought was a master cyclinder, and I dont know if this means anything, but I loosened up the bleeder screw and depressed the brake and fluid came shooting out like it was fine? I dont know what this means. There is plently of fluid in the car, that was the first thing I checked. I am relieved that its not the booster, I didnt really want to do that...

sounds like a wheel cylider in the rear ,pop your rear drums off and see if there all wet. if it was the booster i think you would still have pedal it would just be rally hard, like your car wasnt running

Yeah its like the exact opposite, but doesnt the car mainly use front braking to stop the car? I cant get the brakes to work AT ALL, I had been slowing down with my gears and E-Brake and had to blow like 2 stoplights since it has happened, its dangerous and I just want to get this POS fixed.

is there fliud in the master cylinder? take the cap off and push the pedal down with it running , can you see a stream? bubbles? what have you tried? jack the front tire off the ground , give it a spin. do you feal any restriction ? does it keep going and going ? you should have some kind of drag from the calipers . o-yeah dont call your stang a pos, they dont like it.

Well, sounds like you're kinda clueless. That being said, you should really let a pro work on it so you don't kill yourself or someone else.
