Need a T-5 But Which One 2.95?
My T-5 is about done and I have been looking at several options. First off it needs to handle 400 horse and I don't want to put out alot of dough for a tremec. I also have a question about the gearing. I was looking at the ones with the 2.95 first gear instead of my 3.35. The 2.95 means you can whine first gear out further right? Second the best price I can find was an astro performance T-5 with super alloy 2.95 gears that can handle 450 horse. It cost 850 plus you have to give them a core. My dad and I are both very mechanical inclined and have done everything except rebuild a tranny. If I were to buy just the gears do you think we could handle it? We have watched videos and read books. Thanks

GM T-5's are junk just thought i would say that...... and you should be able to put just the gears in, but while it's apart rebuild the syncros... if you don't feel comfortable doing it, i can offer help along the way or do it for you

if u dont know what ahigher first gear will do.....dont open any trannys!!! i just want from the 2.95gear in my old tranny to a new tranny with the worldclass gears. the 2.95 gear is at about35 or so around my6,000 redline. i actually perfer the lower gear. it seems to be a lot less stressful on my clutch. Good Luck with all that

RE: Need a T-5 But Which One 2.95?
the case is alot weaker for one, which causes bearing failur at lower HP ratings, the taller gear is way to much for a mostly stock car, and the GM t-5's us a different casting/alloy (which ever u preffer to call it) for the gears which is suppose to be stronger, but they have a tendency of cracking at around 250- 275WHP...
