RE: i cant remove alt pulley!!!
an impact wrench makes the pulley removal
much easier
if you don't have an impact wrench, maybe you can stick
a prybar or something similar, in one of the pulley holes
and brace it so it can't turn

yeah but today i just bought the vise thinking that it will work and it didnt. i guess i'll just take it to a shop to get it done. what holds the pulley when an impact wrench is used?

just take your alternator to a garage... ask them to pop the pulley off and install the new one... they will either do it for free, or ask for a few bucks.... either way, toss them a 10 spot

I've taken dozens of them apart when I worked for autozone. Using an impact worked best there, we had an electric impact. I held the fan with my hand, grip it tight, and hit the impact. I never had one get away from me, but if you are still scared, run a screwdriver in between the fan blades and into the case of the alternator to wedge it. I never used a vice, just put them on their side with the bigger ear down so the case can't rotate, it shouldn't since there are bearings around the shaft and the only things that should move is the pulley and fan
