Default Higher Reving Engine

I Have a 331 in my car right now. and people say that you should not rev it to high. I always keep it under 6,000 rpm's. I would like to make my car be able to rev higher without the risk of damaging it. What kind of parts do i need to do that? Lifters, Valve springs? what makes it be able to rev higher and be safe? Thanks

light weight internals and fly wheel. a good balance job. high quality fasteners. stiff valve spings, thick walled push rods. youll be pushing 7500 rpms in no time

The cam will have a big influence on what rpm an engine makes peak power, you will need spring to match it. My main question though is why do you want a really high revving engine? Drivabilty will suffer and you will generally sacrifice low end torque. Plus it is always harder on a motor to spin it higher. 6000 rpm is pretty high for a street engine.

jd was right, u dont need to hit that high, our motors were originally truck motors and they are prided on the low end. this is not an ls1 if i were u i would tach it at 6500 get a big cam trick flow stage 2 maybe and the heads and a nice carb or holley intake and you will be making some great pwoer from 2500-6000 instead of 4000-7500, ur gonna need some steap gears for that job. plus the balancing alone will be hard, ur valve springs are gonna have to be triple reinforced and there arent many cams that rev that high, ur gonna be essentially runnin a race cam, somethin well over .580 lift just to see a power band that high, and then ur gonna have ptv issues. just dont rev it that high. u want a high revvin motor, buy a honda
