swap bell housing
So you think the regular bellhousing for a toploader or c4/5 etc. wouldn't fit?
ud need motor mounts
Where could I find info on motor mounts for this kind of swap?
This is why I'm looking for a link related to a swap into a fox. I'm sure it's similar to the big block swaps.

I wonder if some of you read my initial post all the way through?

but for the same amount you could probably but a W block and make it crazy!
i personally wouldnt get it, i think a 302 would be better IMO or a 351W
I'll quote myself here...
I understand that you may be able to buildan insane 351w for cheaper than an insane 351m/400, but I can get this for free.
Another point here-

they are very low horse i belive around 150
did never make a wopping amount of power
What they made stock is irrelevant, it's what I could do with it! They were chocked down for smog just like the early 80s 302s!

finding a manual bellhousing and flywheel will cost around a couple hundred to start with the other good thing is you go automatic they did put some c4's behind them
I'd have to invest money into my tranny situation anyway since
Quote myself
the t5 in mine now is beg. to fail anyway.
well a 351m/400 is just a 460/429 335 series bellhousing...and the bell housing is a pain no more then a 460 since they share the same bell....
Quote myself again here
I know the bellhousing pattern is different
Remember the act of "getting" this motor, just requires me taking it home. It's free. As far as I can tell motor mounts, tranny, possibly driveshaft?, probably a hood, would be the only things that require change.
I can read websites just like you guys, so you don't need to retype info about these motors that I've already read.
I need some info on swaps into foxes!!!!!
I really appreciate the info guys, please keep it coming. Thanks again for the help!

our machinist said not to instal the m, it makes only 150hp and has a defect in which the main does not lube properly and spins bearings alot, nor is it made to rev.

it needs 351 w swap headers, oil pan , motor mounts , lower intake manifold, power steering bracket and distributor/gear.

search 351w swap on here.

The 400 M is a tall deck Cleveland engine (335 series). The motor mounts are the same as a 302(5.0). The transmission is the same as a 302. This is a torque type engine. The oil pan is the same as a 351 Cleveland. Good luck.

I would definataly stick with your 302 or get a 351 windsor.Im pretty sure in71 when the 400 came out in bigger family cars and had a decent amount of power that year but then from then on it was down to like a 150. Like someone said they loose oil pressure fast because of there lower end and there cranks dont usally last past 150,000 miles if that .

Yeah I have a 400 in my full size 78 bronco and it does win races against other pickups and hondas even with the 4 inch lift and 35 inch tires but the aftermarket is so small for these motors that it is not cost efective to throw one in your fox. Edelbrock JUST came out with a set of heads for them and they cost around 900 dollars a piece! My suggestion would be to sell it and use that money to buy a windsor!
