May not weigh less after the upgrades it takes for fox to keep up.

If everything was exactly the same [which isn't possible, FYI], the fox would win b/c it weighs a little less......but not by much.

Anyway, the 5.0 is cheaper to mod.....parts are dirt cheap, even compared to 4.6 parts.

if there were a matchup between a 5.0 gt and a 4.6 gt..say a 89 vs 96-98 or a 89 vs 99+
and the horsepower rating to the wheels were the same, and all else were the same or equal (gears driver etc.) would the 5.0 go as fast or will a 4.6 with the same hp rating out run it?

the 99+ gt has more hp to the wheels. the entire universe of racing can be boiled down to power and weight. more power OR less weight = faster, period. So asking which one would be faster if the hp was the same is an invalid question, because u are talking about a modded 5.0 vs a stock 4.6. the only thing you are really asking about here is weight. the 89 could outrun a 96 because they had similar hp and the fox was lighter. the 99+ will outrun a fox because it just outpowers it.

the fox would win because of the weight difference....
stock for stock a 99+ 4.6 will beat a stock fox but how many foxes out there are still stock and with the money you would spend buying a stock 99 up stang you can have you a excellant condition fox thats quick enough to run off and leave a 4.6 with mods... but i love the look of the 99-up mustangs but dont like the cost of putting some of the simplest bolt ons on the car..It all really comes down to which car you like the most...
and it doesnt take much to have a fox outrunning a 99-04 gt..

there are more 5.0 foxes out there stock to the jiffy-lube replaced paper filter than there are with any modifications whatsoever. i really hate it when people make this point because it is invalid on so many levels. the reason people throw this out there is because we all run in car oriented circles, and nobody we know runs a stock 5.0, but they are out there in droves, and easy to find.
EDIT: did u miss something? i covered the weight issue in that post. in all honesty the question boils down to "everything else being equal, will a lighter car outrun a heavier one?"however it managed to get sugarcoated a little in this thread
questions like this are what make carlos mencia go "dee dee dee"

RE: 4.6 vs 5.0
what exactly are u trying to convince me of? that a modded car can outrun a stocker? come on. the question asked was if a fox had the same hp as a 4.6 could it win. the answer is yes, because of weight. and that is in the deep dark abyss below a no brainer. addressing that question really isnt helpful. a more useful discussion would be one of stock vs stock and potential vs potential
