when u have a hammer shifter, will it down shift when u tell it to?
Thats not a shifter thing, thats a tranny thing (or valve body.) My tranny is an AODE (with kit), so I can shift up or down at will and I have the electronic OD delete. So I can shift up or down as I please.

the OD delete is in the valve body. you have to buy a valve body with electric OD delete built in. no shift kit since your will be buying a performance valve body

Why the hell would you want to delete overdrive?

I have one, love it also, but ive heard the bad thing about them it you cant use wrist action with them, it all arm really. I went to remove mine today for fluid change and the last owner cross threaded it when it was put on, so it snapped off.............

All AODE trannys have the electronic OD delete. You don't have them in the AODs though. Without the OD delete in an AOD, you have to do the 1-D-1-D shuffle to manually shift it from 1-2-3. With the electronic OD delete you can shift 1-2-3 by shifting 1-D-OD on the AOD. It's not an issue with the AODE because you can already shift 1-2-D.

As to why you would want to eliminate OD in the AODE, try this... Hit WOT and get your speed up nice and fast. Now shift it into OD while still at WOT and let me know what happens Chances are, you will be taking your car to the shop to get a new OD band since the old one would have blew out.

Also, in a lot of city driving, the tranny likes to shift into OD at real low RPMs and speeds. You can be doing 40 and have it shift in and out of OD. To save wear and tear on the band and to makethe engine strain less, it's often easier to shut it off unless you really need it like at higher speeds or on the highway.

Just because you delete OD, it doesn't mean it's gone for good. All you do is press a button and it goes back to normal.
