RE: fixing the cowl
I fixed my 4" cowl on my 88 GT and it came out really good. There was like a 4" section at the top of the cowl that was cracked. I used fiberglass filler and layed it over it than just sanded it down. It worked out really well! I used the regular ol fiberglass filler at AutoZone, comes in a green can but forget the name.

i have also had my hood fly open and damage the cowl panel. i can't seem to find any answers as to how to pull the dent without cutting the welds, removing the windshield, etc. i just want my dent in the cowl to be pulled out enough to where my wipers will work again. i tried wedging things between the cowl panel and the metal underneath it, but i fear that i will dent that metal too. there must be some sort of tool that will allow me to just pull the dent out.

you guys do realize that almost all catologues say underneath the fiberglass hood section "WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE USE OF HOOD PINS WITH FIBERGLASS HOODS"
theres a reason for them saying that

RE: fixing the cowl
the best way to fix the bent cowl panels is to remove all the wiper equipment and insert a scissor jack, one thats commonly found int he back of a car.
place a piece of wood, like a 2x4 on top of the jack and slowly raise the jack till it makes contact
you can raise the jack to press the cowl panel back up into place, and if done correctly, a rubber mat and rubber mallet can be used to massage out any wrinkles in the metal
