Default MAF with K&N

I'm just thinking about my idling problem, and if it's possible to by-pass some electronic controls - for example, how does a high-flow cone filter with its own pipe deal with the MAF?

AFAIK, it should replace the stock air intake tube up to the throttle body.

I will anyhow go to a cool-air air intake pipe, so maybe I can do that right away and nip the MAF right in the bud...

If you car is MAF, you need to have MAF...that is how you car meters the air to get it running right.

I still think a new one is you best bet. Look on ebay for a 94/95 70mm MAF(will need an adaptor for the filter, but the sensor may work in your stock MAF aswell, vristang will know)or you can get a stock one. Ebay will run you around 40 bucks.

It would be nice if the 94-95 Mustang sensor wasa direct interchange with the Fox sensor, but it isn't.

You need the tube and sensor from a 94-95 Mustang, or a tube and sensor for a Fox (A9* series).

The broken wires cannot be repaired.

You need to get a new sensor.

The part/sensor you are looking for is marked, 'F1ZF'
It can be found on more than just Mustangs. In the j/y expand your search to the Taurus and Tbird.

Well, yes, though I know I can't just throw it out - what I was looking for was an aftermarket replacement, like a K&N pipe, and I was wondering how either K&N or other high air-flow systems would deal with MAF.

Basically, since I want to go for better air intake anyways, I was hoping there was an aftermarket solution to bypass the stock MAF, so I could kill two birds with one wrench...

Let's talk a little about what the MAF is, and what it does before we pitch it...
The MAF sends a signal to the computer which can be correlated to the air flowing into the intake system.
That is pretty easy to grab onto, but now we need to look at what the computer does with that signal.
The looks at the MAF to determine theFuelInjector PulseWidthsand Ignition Timing Advance. Without the MAF signal for the computer to use, the computer would make poor decisions about fuel and timing.

Your could run really rich and get horrible mpg's, or you could run lean and blow up the motor with detonation.

Disabling or bypassing the MAF is a just asking for trouble.

However, you do have some options for upgrading your factory MAF.
companies like PMAS and C&L specialize in aftermarket MAF meters.
PMAS is better in most applications.
Look for a size of 70mm or larger.
But, biggr than 80mm is probably overkill...
