Default valvetrain noise

I recently installed a dss 331, gt40 heads, anderson n41 cam and 1.7 crane roller rockers. the rockers are from a cobra? they have a ford part number on them. still have stock lifters. I have a bad valve train noise coming from both valve covers when it is warmed up. the rockers are tight, they are the ones you just torque down and have no adjustment. the pushrods are aftermarket, brand? there doesn't seem to be any looseness in the pushrods, you can twist them a little bit but don't have any play up and down. any possiblities of lifters bleeding down? what are the chances of more then one bleeding down? also are the lifters supposed to be installed in any particular way, the hole on the side is it supposed to be in any direction?

pretty decent possibility that one of your lifters are bad, or more than one. I would have replaced them if I were in your position. I replaced mine. Is it a loud knocking noise?

Get a pushrod length checker to see what length of pushrod you need and replace the lifters.

the noise is like a very loose rocker or 10! I had the passenger side valve cover off, it is louder then the drivers side and also easier to get to. like I said the pushrods don't move up and down. wouldn't that negate the need for a pushrod checker?

I have the crane 1.7 roller rockers as well. Mine always make a fair amount of noise, and I wondered about it, so i asked about it when I went to get my car tuned and they said it sounded normal. I dont know if it is the same thing, but who knows.

if thats normal, I don't know how they can keep selling them. it is very loud. maybe it's the dss valve covers that I have on, maybe they don't conceal the sound as much. but as you drive you can hear them inside the car and I have very loud exhaust.

I'm also having some pretty bad lifter noise, goes away after it runs for a while but seems to be getting worse. So far everything I've read is pointing toward the lifters, more than one for sure, I also have 1.7 rockers and an aftermarket cam. I believe the stock lifters just can't take it?

Nope..... where on the tip of the valves are the rockers contacting through their cycle? By not using the correct PR length(s) required by your setup, you are not allowing the camshaft/valve train to perform at 100%.... need to check for the correct PR length required.

At the risk of repeating what already been said check the pushrod length. Buy a Pushrod length checker. It's money well spent

they are pedastal mount and you do not just bolt them down... once you have achieved the proper push rod length need as everyone has stated, first you spin nut down until a 0 lash is reached = no up and down movement of push rod then from there you should reach 20 -25 ft lbs of torque in 1/2 to 3/4 turn....if it takes more a shim is needed that's to say that push rod length has already been properly determined and contact patch of roller tip is centered on valvesteam tip
