Default STARTER SLIPPING

I have a 91 Lx 5.0 and when i crank it it just slips like it has a bad flywheel. i have tried 3 different starters and i checked the flywheel and it is fine. you can hear the gear go out but just not engaging all the way. is it possible for it to be bad battery cables? the car sat for a while

Are you positive that your flywheel has NO badly worn teeth? Also, over time, your bolt holes for your starter can wallow allowing the starter to shift slightly when it is engaging. Or you may need to shim. There are actually a few issues that could cause that. If you have a new battery and the cables are connected well and your starter is well grounded then that won't be the issue, you can eliminate that fast.

Shimming very well may be your problem. Are you using any shims ?

I'm not using any shims... I guess that could be it. Thanks.

check the ground cable first. 99.99999% of the time, you dont need shims. most starters are made to spec's of the vehicle, only universal starters NEED shims.

You couldof got it tested to see if that was the problem. Advance auto does it for free. They'll let you know right there if its bad or not.
