well it depends on what gears are in it, probably at least 200 especially if its in good condition, then maybe more. oh yea and go with the 8.8, a 9 inch is way to big, it would be like puttin 42lb injectors on a stock motor, u will actually lose power in the process if u put it on.

hmm how in the WORLD do you figure that a rear will make you loose power? I need to hear your logic behind this..

But I would grab the 9 inch and just keep it for when you do decide to go 9 inch you have a rear to start with. I would go with the 8.8 now to save some money! And +1 for the tbird rear but my only advice is to be sure to check your backspacing when you buy rims because it is wider!

well b/c the 8.8 is not as big and require less rotating mass to move the gears, the 9 inch is the best rear for big blocks or small blocks making tons of power cause its tough, and big, for someone who will have a mild 5.0 sbf, the 9 inch would need more power to move the internals of the rear.

not sure thats a true statment. just because its phisicaly heavier, doesn't mean it takes more hp to turn it. so your saying if the 8.8 and 9" are sitting side by side it will be harder to turn the 9" . i doubt it

thats just what i have been told by an engine builder, either way for a stock 5.0 we all agree the 8.8 is the way to go, and yea the 9 is a bit heavier, but i dont kno, i thought it made sense when i was told it oh well.

ummmmmm wow. Ill just leave it at that. Im glad your not tech. certified because it only weights at most 40 lbs more then a 8.8. I know this because I have had experiences with both. And the rotating mass is not a big enough difference between the rears to justify a power loss
