Engine Management Systems
What are you using for ECU/ECM? Are you using a full replacement aftermarket system, piggyback system or stck with some additions chip etc.? The project I will be on will approach about 650rwhp and I am retarded when it get's down to the engine managment system. I have been a die hard carb guy right up until now. I am interested in building a huge HP fuelie, but time has passed me by. I need some assistance on this. I looked into the Wolf system, the AEM system and the Tweecer piggyback system but would like some feedback from somebody who has ACTUALLY done it, please no opinions or theories, I would like to hear from the voice of experience.

RE: Engine Management Systems
Self tuning takes a LOT of research and knowledge.
It is very doable, but be prepared for some serious book learning.
You basically have to learn how and why the Ford EEC does what it does
www.fordfuelinjection.com has a lot of good info and can get you
started in right direction for learning.
I would recommend you find a local dyno tune shop that can
do a custom SCT tune for you.
They burn the chip on site and can make changes and re-test until its right.
SCT custom chip also offers a 4 bank chip so you can set-up different tunes
and switch back and forth.
If your heart is set on using a piggy-back system I would
recommend Tweecer since it seems to have the best support thru
forums and on-line info.

RE: Engine Management Systems
Thank you both for the input. Ironically I am not a bit intimidated by self tuning, I understand how the engine is supposed to run. The issue is that technology has gone way above and beyond what it was when I did my only fuel injected car out of five foxes. So now you can do all types of crazy stuff...lots of capability, but ease of use of course is a quality you would want no matter how deep you want to get. I used to program DFI way back but installing a system and getting it set up right will take some help. Thanks to the two of you for your quick response. I will check back and see who else weighs in. I will look into the pms system and the mega squirt. I am also going to have to buya new ECM module, the notch I bought does not have one anymore. But it does have all of the harnesses.

RE: Engine Management Systems
I am another tweecer user.
I have enjoyed it and r.barn made some good points above.
I am using an X3Z computer as well.
Any of the Fox computers would work though.
I have a little info on my site (in my sig).
It is a good idea to download and play with the tweecer software.
The download will be free on the tweecer site.

RE: Engine Management Systems
im looking in to it and have been off and on for about a year. the way I understand it is the tweecer is the hardest to learn and the pms is the easiest (sp?) to learn and megasquirt is the most flexable and in the middle on user frinedly but from what i have read not easy to install. the XFI is very user friendly does every thang I could think of and a few more, coms with wire harness, wide band 02 but is 2,000 Im still learning!!!
P.S. if i gave bad info pleaseFIX IT!
