I am going to buy a 1992 mustang 5.0 tomorrow. I looked at it today and the check oil light was on. I will have to drive the car home about 40 miles if I do buy it. Can this light possibly mean that the oil pump went out? What does/can this light mean? Thank and I'm proud to join to mustang club. I was originally gonna get a z28, but then I decided that i'm better than that....haha.

This means that the oil level is low. Theres a sensor in the oil pan that if the oil goes below a certain point, the light will go on. This could also mean that the sensor is bad, or not connected.

could just mean the oil is low, check that first... Other wise could be a list of things...

Only reason my check engine light comes on is when its dropped too low...

Im pretty sure its the check oil light, not the check engine light, right?

check oil light means its low. just bring a quart with you and fill it to the proper level, then change it when you get home.

if the light doesnt turn off after adding the court i would be careful start the car and make sure you have oil pressure if it doesnt have any tow the car home you may need a new pump

i have a grand am that has the check oil light on all the time. I just checked the oil, topped it off, still on and drive it like i dont see it. Been running like this for 3 years now. could be a sensor... good luck

yeah my check engine light is on? what does that mean? probbly a bad sensor? if so what sensor?

Wait a sec.. Is it your check engine light or your check oil light? That makes a difference.

My oil level was full, but light was on all the time. So I took out the bulb and problem solved, I also took the check engine bulb out too.
