Default Starter Problems.....

i just installed my new mini starter from a 93 on my 89. i think i have it hooked up right. i ran 2 new wires....a 4ga to replace the OEM wire and a 12ga to run the extra wire it takes to make the new starter work. i ran the 4ga from the post furthest from the battery on the firewall solenoid to the large post on the new solenoid on the starter. i ran the 12ga wire from the post closest to the battery on the firewall solenoid to the small post on the solenoid on the starter. when i try to turn it over...all i can hear is the firewall solenoid clicking.....any ideas on how to fix this headache???? thanks!

That sounds like it has bad continuity. Just like grabbem88 said, make sure the connections are tight. Did you put conductive jelly on them?

blakesnake are you saying that the new starter has its own solenoid? if that is the case, you don't need the stock firewall solenoid.

can you take a picture of the new starter's solenoid? should have 2 large posts, and 1 small terminal.
1 of the large posts might have its own ground strap on it.
