Default Highest timing?

I'm running 14* of timing and using 87 gas with no pinging even at highway speeds of 80+( drive safe). I wanted to know what are the highest timing #'s that have been run safely using 87,89,93. If I could get up to 16* or 18* without detonation using 89 or higher octane would there be a noticeable difference over 14*?

it all depends on the condition of the motor, the weather, your location, and elevation..... along with the overall quality of the gas. far too many variables.. Just use what workd for your car!

i run 18* on mine. I NEVER run anything lower than 91 octane. New gas station in town sells 93 octane so I run that now.

Thanks. I dont have the nerve to go any higher but I was curious. I usually run 14* in the cold weather months and then back it down to 12* in the hot weather months just to be extra safe!

On 91 octane, CA gas, I can only run 10 or 11* before I get pinging in hot weather.

+1 Every car is different. Use whatever octane you want to stick w/ and than just raise it 1* at a time until you start to ping. When you start to ping back it off a degree and lock it in.
