nah i take my trany out all the time i use 2 ramps for the front and jack stands of the rear... the only special tool you need is the alignment tool that usualy comes in the clutch kit, and a swivel and a long extension for the top bellhousing bolts

well i have a pretty good amount of tools and i can get most others from a friend who works for a VW dealer. i guess what im still wondering about is what *** has to be removed to do this?? is the driveshaft going to have to comeout or anything large like that?sorry if these are dumb but i have never looked into replacing it myself, although i would like to
