79-03 TUBULAR K-MEMBER INSTRUCTIONS
Raise your Mustang with a floor jack and support it with jack stands.
Remove the brake caliper and tie it out of your way.
Remove the sway bar end link bolts and bushings.
After compressing the coil spring with a floor jack, use a spring compressor to remove the spring. Then unbolt the strut from the spindle repeating the same method on the other side.
Unbolt the steering linkage at the rag joint.
Support the engine with an engine hoist, raising the motor slightly after you remove the motor mount bolts from the big, heavy stock k-member.
With the front suspension supported by a floor jack, remove all for 15mm lover rear k-member bolts.
Remove all four 18mm upper k-member bolts.
Now lower the front suspension and k-member and roll it out from under your Mustang with a little help from a friend.
Unbolt the steering rack and pinion from your stock k-member, but do not remove.
Remove the stock control arms from the factory k-member by using a 13/16 socket on the bolts and a 15/16 boxed-end wrench on the inner nuts.
Slide the power steering rack and control arms off the factory k-member as an assembly.
If you are using the stock control arms, grind the leading edge of the lower control arm’s front pickup points so the arm does not rub the k-member during suspension compression. Whenever using a grinding tool, be sure to wear the proper safety equipment because safety should always come first.
Lubricate the rack and pinion mounting shafts and slide the rack and control arms onto your new D & D MOTORSPORTS, INC. K-MEMBER. The rack mount uses a ½ X 20 1" long. Bolt not supplied.
Now reinstall the front suspension by reversing the steps used to remove the stock unit making sure the clip nuts are in place before starting any k-member bolts.
After assembling your brakes and struts you will need to have your Mustang aligned.
