is it worth the extra 300-400+ dollars to get a custom grind camshaft over like a $150-$250 "off the shelf" camshaft from summit or someone.?

yes, just in that you wont have any guess work if the cam is going to give you what you want.

tell them what you want out of it, and thats what you get, beauty of it being "custom"
they are also made out of better materials and to much stricter standards

That's not your choice. You have to meet certaincriteria for the SADI. Jay will tell you which core you will use. Only a small minority are SADI cams. Billet steel is far superior. Plan on using it.

i am going with a custom cam also. a cam can either make or break your setup so why not take the guess work out of it.

also even descent OTS cams are still close to 300 bucks

yes and no..if it a cam with some bolt ons no it's not worth it....
