u should try and find out what cam it is. cause it sounds as though the cam is too big for the motor. but thats just a suggestion. are there valve reliefs cut in the pistons?

car ran fine before so cam is not to big.

The only method to adjust valves properly is as follows
1 Turn the motor over till the exhaust valve just starts to open.
2 Adjust the intake valve on that cylinder
3 Turn the motor over till the intake valve starts to close
4 Adjust the exhaust valve
This will work on any motor and any cam.

is this the right way to adjust, and my friend was setting zero lash till you couldnt turn the pushrod at all. willdo it again with zero lash till the pushrod spins but no upand down play. thanks.
