problems trying to start
when i go to turn the key everything comes on, then when i go to start the car all i can hear is the starter fliying like a million miles an hours... it is bolted in very securely and in place... wat could be the problem?
it was replaced in the mechanics shop... how do i get the top bolt off of the starter? thats the only thing that keeps me from being able to take it out myself!! thanks
If you can hear the starter spin like mad and the car not rolling over then it would appear the starter shaft/gear is not coming out enough to engauge with the flywheel gears. I would insure she is tight i had this problem before afew times on afew stangs and it ended up being loose or the shaft not coming out to engauge. if and when you insure both bolts are tight and no play in the starter wouldn't hurt to give it a wack i'm sure many of us will say they had to do this for starters not ingauging. try this before putting in replacement starter.
I've had issues with top bolt before too and it was the one that was loose which was preventing it from engauging. grab the top end of the starter and pull it up and down if theres any play then shes loose in that case just tighten it. if tight a little wack wouldn't hurt in attempts to get in engauging.
**The top bolt can be a pain in the ***, well has been for me in the past, I got around it using asortment of long extentions and elbow/swivels etc and was able to crank her loose or tight. depending on your exhaust setup clearancecan be a issue. i've seen some that had to remove or loose there h-pipe/xpipe to get in there.
