TAKE SOME SAND PAPER AND RUFF IT UP SOME ...WHEN IT WAS NEW THE METAL WAS OF FRESH OFF OF BEING MACHINED GREAT FROM GASKET SEAL
What does this mean?

AndySpeed, tape it off so u dont get overspray on anything important.

Side note: I taped everything off before i did grinding and polishing to keep the rust dust and all the crap out of the engine, worked well.

To tape it off i just used newspaper and masking tape, make sure there's no oil or it wont stick. I can snap a pic if you want. As for the grinder, my friend let me borrow the one he uses at work so i got lucky, it's similar to the one someone posted a picture of and runs off compressed air, let me tell you it spins like a banshee.

oh... I honestly didnt think about that. To be straight up with you, if i didnt pull my engine i wouldnt have painted it. I just figured that since it was out it was worth doing. if you're debating on whether to pull it or not i would suggest pulling it, everything is so much easier. I was on the fence and now i am so happy i pulled it.

Yeah thats true, I'm not sure it would depend on your cashflow. I guess i got lucky, I'm using my friend's stand and another friend's puller... If you could find a puller you can get a stand at advance auto parts for like $40 i think...
