I just went out there and pulled the gear shifter. Im trying to find out if its low on fluid makeing it grind/wine every gear. I see a little puddle of fluid in there with a lil hole in the middle. Do i have to pull the side plug of the tranny so know its level. (hope not its raing like here figures on my only day off work lol)

ok, first drain it all lol, now there's 2 plugs on the side a bottom one(to empty) and a top one(when full, reaches the bottom edge of this hole) put a pan underth the top hole, unplug it, now start filling it up through the shifter base until fluid comes out the hole, and its that simple

EDIT: forgot to say, do this on level ground

I just did mine and didn't even bother to pull the fill plug. I just drained mine and then filled it with 2.75 quarts through the shifter. Only tools I need were an 8mm, 10mm, &13mm sockets for shifter removal and a 3/8 ratchet fit indrain plug.

that was stupid.... do it right, pull the fill plug too... if u have a pump of some sort u can fill it thru there, if not go thru the shifter.... or

leave the fill plug in, fill it thru the shifter THEN take the fill plug out and let it get to the level it should be at

Ya, your right. I'll pull the fill plug and double check the level tonight.

The filling through the shifter is only good if you have the console, shifter and boot all our from a transmission install.

For changing or adding fluid, that's too much work.
I place a funnel with a hose on it and fill it from the right side of the engine.

try that with your headers nice and hot and let me know how that goes... the easiest way is to get a fluid pump (like an old fuel pump, or an intercooler pump) or if ur cheap get a hand pump from homedepot for like 5$$$
