May sound crazy but, when I was a younger man...
I would visit the pick and pay junkyards and play doctor with their vehicles. I learned a lot about taking stuff apart and seeing the hidden side of things before I started disassembling my own.
I am sure you want your HCI doneNOW...but try playing around the junkyard sometimes to get a feel for the tools and such. It will definately help you with the confidence thing when you go to take yours apart.
