so you dont have a set of heads now? 50.00 for cores is fine, but you'll need the hardware (valves/springs/retainers/keepers) and the machine ship is gonna charge you for that stuff, but shouldnt be too much if they have extra used parts which most shops should.

those are E7's btw, which are decent but nothing spectacular.

*edit* for that 50 bucks plus shipping plus hardware plus a valve job/surface (with no porting or anything done) you could spend the same amount of money and get a pair of GT-40 heads already remachined and ready for assembly from clearwater cylinder heads. they are very reputable, our machine shop would buy cores from them if we didnt have certain stuff in stock.

if memory serves last time they had em on ebay they wanted like 300 or 325 a pair - give em a call and see if they have any left in stock.

which is fine, a place around the corner from me said they can port and polish 3 angle valve job and new spring and retainers for about 500 bucks. so then all i would need to do is buy new valves and roller rockers push rods and lifters because i didnt replace mine when i rebuilt the engine.

this is stuff i can do bit by bit, but i'm more curious if those heads hes sellin look any good? i emailed him but havent heard anything back yet. how much increase would i see from what i'm planning out doin. rough numbers work fine, dont have to be exact

see my edited first reply, your probably better off with the gt-40's in all honesty. yes E7's can be ported all to hell to make more power than stock gt-40s but its hit or miss depending on who is doing the work and will cost more to have it done. plus with some slighty massaging the gt-40's will perform even better than as cast

I don't know about where you live, but I could get a set of E7's in good shape for under $30 locally. I had my stock E7's reman'd at City Motor Supply and I purchased a Crane valve spring kit that they also installed....

Crane Valve spring kit: $130 from Summit
E7's: dipped, magnafluxed, 3-angle valve job, Chevy valves, install of Crane kit=$160 w/ my cores.

Ported: free....did it w/ my Dremel.

$290 for everything. $500 seems steep, especially not including the heads and you probaby don't get to choose the parts they use......

I would do as suggested and find a set of GT40's/P's on ebay that have already been reman'd or worked over. That should be well under $500 including shipping.

Side note: I would have gone the Gt40 or P routehad I known better at the time. It was about 2 yrs ago and I hadn't weighed out all my options.

Last time I spoke w/ Clearwater, their P heads were 155 each w/o shipping, IIRC. If they're charging $200 for shipping I'd keep looking....
