Noob with a 5.0 ???
Hello all, I am a noob to the 5.0, coming from the Jeep 4.0 world. I am buying an 88 Lincoln Towncar for the 5.0 to put into a rockcrawling truck. I will be getting the whole car as a runner so I know it will work. My question is, looking at the intake, the air box comes off to the drivers side where a mustang comes off to the passenger side. Can I buy a new intake for an 86 up 5.0 and make it work. This also leads me into will all performance stuff for the 5.0 work as well, being an 88?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help is welcome and thanks in advance. Jeff

ok
1st-n e 5.0 intake will work, regardless of if it goes left or right
2nd-88 stangs are sd, dunno if the town car is that or maf, if it is sd ur mods are limited slightly.... but u can convert from sd to maf....
i no a good bit about sd, and it is very doable to make sd very fast,... but chances are youd rather convert to maf if its sd...

ylojrzy where are you located? I am part of a massive off road club here in alabama, me and my dad have an 85 scrambler with a good deal of mods, alot of guys here run 5.0's in there toyota's and one guy has a boss motor in his cj-7. maybe could get you some decent info on what setup as far as axles, i know this yota with 5.0 breaks full width 1 ton axles everytime we go out.

I'm in Tucson AZ. My Yota is named Bad Juju. And that is what this project has been, nothing but bad juju. I have a D44 for the front right now. I am looking for a 9" or D60 to match the D60 rear that I have to put in. When I get back from Iraq in November, it will be sitting on the 38" Iroks. When I get the new front axle I'm going 40-42". Here is a link to the build so far on Pirate 4x4.

RE: Noob with a 5.0 ???
SD = speed density
MAF = mass air flow
their different ways of metering the air coming into the motor. MAF is usually more "mod friendly" while SD doesnt like to be modded, mostly because SD uses a (MAP) pressure sensor and "guesses" how much air is coming into the engine, based on the pressure. When you modify the intake tract, the SD system doesnt know how to adjust becaue it's calculations are based on the characteristics of the stock intake system.
