hey guys, i know this is a little late in the game to be mentioning this but I suspect that my 91 LX has an aftermarket cam. When I bought it the guy said the car was all stock which I still think isnt true. I believe it has a cam because the way the exhaust sounds as it goes from 1000 to 3500 RPM. I hear the air packing in the cylinders and make that 'muscley' sound. how can i check if i have a cam besides dynoing it? i also think this car has gears even though the guy said it had stock gears. anyway, how can i check if it has a cam?
Go to somone that has a cam or somone who doesnt and see it It sounds the same. I had to do the same thing because the owner before me did engine work and I thought my car has a cam, and I heard a stock 5.0 and my car Idle is alot tuffer and rougher sounding, also people ask I if have a cam.
To know for sure, you will have to degree the camshaft. You'll probably find out what brand and type it is too from that information, if it isn't a custom camshaft.
pull the driver's side valve cover and use a magnetic base 1" dial indicator to measure the valve lift on one intake and one exhaust valve and compare this to the stock cam specs.
