RE: T-5 Rebuild Kit
thank u dime... so the t-5 is weak huh? tell that to my tranny teacher i'm sure he would be willing to let u sit in any of his 3 race cars and go beat the hell out it them for you, BTW he has 3 maverics one mid 10's, one mis 11's and one that hasn't been to the track yet but is running on a 500 shot and the motor wants more (not going to get it tho) he has no problems with his tranny...

RE: T-5 Rebuild Kit
T-5s are every bit as weak as everyone thinks. Theyhave a small center to center shaft distance, narrow gears and are great transmissions only to a point. They areshock rated for only 315lb-ft, which was plenty for stock 5.0 cars, but does not last too long with lots of power adders. In fact, dealers are having a hell of a time with putting huffers on stock 6-cylinder cars because their customers are blowing through t-5 transmissions. I know there are some good ones out there, and they are actually a great transmission for shift quality and moderate torque, but the TKO kicks the t-5s A$$.
I have a customer running a 528Hemi with an 871 blower and 920lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels through a TKO and in three years of pretty agressive street driving he has eaten a McLeod Street Twin and two Dana60diffs without breaking the TKO. You couldn't do that with three t-5s glued together. (My apologies for the Mopar reference but this is the most extreme TKO guy I know)
I don't want to take anything away from the t5, but a transmission's got to know its limitations. Seen thousands, know my stuff. If you are going through t5 transmissions due to excessive torque, the next logical move is to step up to a TKO. It is not indistructible, but it is surely a strong transmission. If you have good luck with the t-5 then more power to ya. Nuff said, going to bed.

ok great points... for cars exceeding 500ft/lbs of tq, yes a t5 isnt what you want... but look at every car on this board... and everysingle one of them would be ok w. a t5...
