Default Porting...

How much does it cost to get the stock heads ported...or would it be better to just buy new heads. Also will you pass smog if you port your heads?

you can do a pretty efficient port job yourself. Just take off your heads, take the valves out, grind out the smog hump and smooth the ports out. Free 20 hp. No way to mess it up really.

But, to answer your question even a great ported set of stockers probably won't flow as well as a stock aftermarket set of heads.

what he said. but if your on a budget this is a nice improvement over stock. plus you can always port the new heads.

I've probably asked this before, but could I port my heads on my SD car and get performance without it acting funny? Can you put an intake on an SD car also?

i dont see why not. all your doing is smoothing out air flow not like increasing the valves. now you maybe able to run an intake

as long as you don't do anything major that changes the manifold vaccum you should be fine... cam changes are the biggest no-no with SD, exhaust is always ok, and intake and head mods are usually ok
