Default Cleaning Carbon

I have a lot of carbon buildup on my pistons and would like to clean it off before putting my engine back together. What is a good way to clean it off without the risk of damaging the piston or cylinder walls?

I woulds just leave it, but if you must, a vacuum and a scraper of some kind would do the trick. Maybe just run some seafoam when you get it back together.

do you have the pistons out of the motor? or just the heads off? i think just carb cleaner spray it on and take a clean shop rag and wipe it off, w/ alotta build up it might take awhile but it should work fine

I would put some oil in each cylinder after doing that, just in case if you go that route.

The heads are off the car, the pistons are still in the block. I really dont want to scrape the pistons and risk scratching them, i was hoping for something that would be gentle on them.

go w/ the carb cleaner and use the oil like he said and when you put it together use seafoam thru the pcv valve. i found thats the best way have someone in there keeping the car running and let it suck in half the bottle
