get a firebird if you wanna go fast, i've been 180 in those things......crazy! but from 150 to 165 ish its sooooooooo shakey but then smooths out. anyone know why it does this? my 98 did this when i got to 100 but smoothed out at 115ish
Your drivetrain gets in to a resonance. It basically has to do with how stuff is balanced, namely the driveshaft. Theyre balanced good enough for the average person that doesnt go over the speed limit. Theyre not balanced for 150+.

ORIGINAL: frdmstng1986GT

no, theres no governor. there is a rev limiter so the car is 'reline limited' then.. but usualy.. the top speed is about 140-ish with aero-dynamic drag and such... i personaly have had my car to 137mph.
You are wrong about the governor. The MAF cars do have a speed limiter. It usually shuts the car down at 125, well it decreases fuel flow so it cant get past 125. My friend has a '93 LX 5.0 5spd. We were racing around 1 day and he told me he could feel his car kinda lose power at 125. Sure enough in the OWNERS MANUAL it says to shut off the speed control you hold the off button on the cruise control for 3 seconds and that disables it.

As for high speed stability, I have 0 problems with that. I had a guy cut me off @ 110, I swerved in to the right lane and didnt have any fear at all, felt really solid.
Now that being said, if your car feels really unstable CHECK YOUR TIRES. I guarantee that you might one or more of these problems with them - Low tire pressure, improper tire size for the rim (too wide or too tall), wrong speed rating ( the lower it is the flimsier the sidewall).

uhmm no. i just posted up a video showing/proving that the car isn't limited to 125 and no higher. unless your talkin bout a newer vehicle then i apoligize. but my car has a MAF (its a 92 so its factory) and it definately went a wee bit higher than that

Ive topped my car out, 5th gear @ 5750 RPM. That roughly around 193 (theoretically according to a gear calculator). My car felt rock solid. Didnt sway, didnt shimmy, I actually felt my car lower itself. The striped line wasnt striped anymore. But I do have Z unlimited rated tires on my car. That and I run 40 series on 16's so it sits even lower. Aerodynamics play a huge role obviously. I wouldnt use the 87-93 GT wing. Its totally useless, but the LX spoiler is functional however. Granted you gotta be going super fast to actually feel it doing its job.

Why dont you open your damn owners manual, in the index find speed control. Then find the page. Thats where I found it.
