Default 255ci v8 302 clone with highrise and 4brrl build up

ok well my cars on is 3rd engine, the trans is going out and i dont have a spare trans for the 2.3l and i have this 4.2l sitting around and i know its good plus i have 2 c4 trannys to go with it. so i think this weekend im gunna buy the motor mount i need to replace the broken one and drop this motor and tranny in. u guys have seen the pics of the motor i posted on here before if ur a regular. so stock this motor is rated at 120hp. i think a high rise intake and 4brrl carb might add alot mor to this motor, maybe a better cam outa some 302 at the bone yard. anyone got any helpfull ideas. i know this motor is a turd but i need my mustang running and driving and once i get/build another 302 it will just be a swap out and in deal. everything on these motors are the same except intake heads and pistons. wonder if theres a easy way to run my a/c on this motor. i have the a/c but it doesnt work cus i fully removed it when i had the other 2 motors in this car so i hooked it back up when i put the orginal motor back in here, and had intentions of recharging it.my mustangs have always been my daily drivers so i could car lees about a 11sec car, 15 is fine, lol, this will be like a 17s with this turd motor

Should be a straight forward swap. Sounds easy and it being carbed makes it that much easier.

high rise intake and 4bbl carb will kill that motor.... just hit up a junkyard and find an old stong 302... the swap is simple

+1... those 255 motors were kinda crappy. they were just there if you wanted a v8 that saposedly got good gas millage. look for a 302, or a 289, or a 351w... even a 260 would be better if you could find one.

ford used aluminum 4bbl intakes in the early 80's which had exceptionally small ports - would be perfect with a small carb on the 255. keep in mind even a holley 600 is gonna be overkill for this thing - you need a 390 (for driveability) or a 500 (for max power on that motor). also your gonna fight hell finding a decent used flat tappet cam (and is risky as hell) but you can get a very mild cam from summit for 80 bucks with lifters.

.448/.472 lift - i wouldnt go any bigger

the plan is to just run it till i have the other 2.3l turbo'd or a cheap 302 to abuse and throw away from a yard, just keep my car on the road. i have a set of 302 heads i might throw on it, its possible since it was rebuilt in 89 that its been bored to a 302 anyways

Youre gonna trust a motor that hasnt been run in 18 years?
I would think all the seals are shot from not being lubed by running the motor.

throw the 302 heads on it (the 255 ports were chokers)

it couldnt be bored to a 302, just not possible........ you have the parts, toss it in and see what happens - you youngins read too many books and dont have enough get'er done time under your belt, you'd be surprized at what you can actually get away with
