I think that the new 'BOSS 302' block is going to be the item to have.
Looks to me like it does everything a Dart block does and it $6-700 less.......

RE: Ford Racing B50 Block
Darts come into 2 versions
the Dart Sportsman that has 4bolt mains on center caps and 2bolt on end caps
this is like the Boss302 block, they run like $2,000 I think
then there is Dart IronEagle that has 4bolts on ALL mains
these guys are expensive $2,500

RE: Ford Racing B50 Block
well i have been searching around and this block appears to be stronger in all the areas that the normal block is weak in. i visited several drag racing forums and several people are using this block in the 9's or very low 10 sec range. i think i am going to continue talking to more people and may consider buying it.
i would like to have a car that i don't have to worry about splitting the block in half and yet i don't want to spend almost 2500 dollars to have a solid foundation. i don't know decistions decisions
however i would still like some input on this decision. do you think i should just build up my current 302 block and if it splits it splits then upgrade?

If you plan on going over 500 hp, and you can invest on the foundation now......go for it. Don't wait to split one block and then upgrade.

RE: Ford Racing B50 Block
Any of the above posters ever owned any of the blocks in this conversation?
The B50 block rating was lowered by Ford from 600hp to 450hp just before it was discontinued. It is stronger in certain areas, but I've seen plenty split right down the center like a stock block at about the same power levels. Even if you can steal an extra 50hp out of them, they are a very poor investment IMO.
The Boss block is a new release. Has anyone in here bought one yet? Has anyone had one machined yet? I do know that the R block was cheaper than the Dart Sportsman that both it and the Boss block compare to. BUT, they were a very rough finish. The amount of machine work required compared to the Dart Sportsman pushed the cost well past a Dart block plus machine work. So unless you guys planned on building a motor with an unfinished block, the Dart block would have been the cheaper deal. You would have saved more money in machine work than the extrayou initially paidfor the Dart. I don't know how the finsh on the Boss block will be and I don't think anyone else here does either, but I can't see it being any better than the R block was.
Boss block has a max bore of 4.125" rated from Ford. Dart block has a max bore of 4.185" as rated from the factory but will generally sonic check past 4.200".
The Dart Sportsmanblock does not require a special oil pan or other expensive parts. Then again, who runs a stock oil pan on these types of builds anyway.
The Boss block is $1760 through Jeg's plus shipping. It's considered oversized. They aren't going to ship it for their $10 handling charge. The Dart Sportsman is $1999 shipped. So how much cheaper is the Boss block? Maybe $125?
The Dart blockis rated to handle more stroke than the Boss.
The Boss block is 50lbs heavier than the Dart.
