Default AOD question, will not shift to OD till 90mph

Ok, as title says, i recently put aod in another mustang. we take her out today for the first run. It cruises along and shifts fine till 3rd to OD. I can cruise at 60mph and it will not shift into OD, only time it will shift is if i run her up to 90mph then let off the accelator it will shift into OD and i can decelerate to 60mph again and it will stay in OD. Also when cruising in 3rd gear and you pull off the road and turn around, it will not downshift out of 3rd, you have SLAM the pedal to the floor to get it to shift itself down. Advice? Its a TCI Streetfighter AOD with auto/manual valve body and a OTS 3000rpm stall. Any help would be great!

>>One last thing, when manually shifting the car 1-2-D, if you shift from 1st to 2nd it won't hold second gear unless you push it back into 1st. It's being operated by a B&M pro ratchet
^ i really hope i don't have all these problems with my C4

To hold 2nd gear in a aod you have to do the 1-d-1 shuffle.. Also and aod will not shift int OD at WOT.. Hope this helped you out a little.

The not-holding-second thing is 100% normal. In order to shift 1-2-D instead of the way it currently is, you need an electronic OD delete. That is one of the biggest gripes with the AOD tranny vs. the AODE.

As far as not shifting into OD, do you mean while driving normally or while driving it hard? The trannys are designed not to shift into OD at WOT.

Under normal driving, cruising at 60mph like a normal driver. It will hold itself at about 3,500rpms(3.73 gears) and not shift unless you accelerate to about 87-90mph(still not thrashing on the pedal just picking up speed) then it will shift, and you can coast back down to 60mph and it will stay in OD then. I also noticed it takes LOTS of pedal to get the transmission to kick down from OD to 3, or 3rd to 2nd etc.

Sounds like the valve body. Not necessarily anything wrong with it, rather it's just set up to shift that way. It's pretty normal for it to want to hold OD or even 3rd for a little longer than you would sometimes want too. Of course, it can be adjusted to suite your needs.

But I do HIGHLY recommend getting an electronic OD delete if you want to use a ratchet shifter. It lets you electronically turn off OD. Then you can shift 1-2-3 without having to jump back down to 1. And once you are in 3rd (1:1 ratio) then you can flip the switch manually and it will shift into OD for you.

Of course, this is something I don't have to screw with because I have an AODE instead of an AOD. So I can already shift 1-2-3 using my B&M Hammer ratchet shifter. As far as shift points go, I change them electronicalyl as well usin my laptop. I just hook teh laptop up and change the shift firmness and shift points. When I'm done, I leave the USB cable connected but tuckd away in my glove box Very handy!

How would you adjust the valve body to shift into OD earlier? its literally like 5,000rpms 90mph before it will shift! lol. Cruising at 3,500rpms all the time unless you push it to 90 will be a pain!
