My 2 cents is this: If youre using stock heads, dont go any higher than .5" lift, as stock heads dont flow well that high, and the air tends to stall. Try to get a cam that has a little higher exhaust lift than intake lift, this means dont get an FMS cam. I have a B303 cam with 1.7s on it, and my lift is at I think .51" and is great, but after doing some research, I wish I had gone with a Crane Cam. If you use an aftermarket head, see what kind of lift they recomend.

I was running an xcam for 4 months with no problems. I had no thicker head gaskets or anything after. Before my oil pump shaft twisted in two I had these as far as noticable engine mods: Ported GT40P IM, 1" penolic spacer, P&P OE heads, x303 cam mac unequal shorties, mac 2.5 o/r H, & mac mufflers.

you can always call the tech guys at places like Comp Cams and Crane Cams and they can help you pick a cam that will work with stock pistons and also be good for future mods so you don't have to change it when you do future mods. they've made thousands of cam for 5.0's and know what works and what don't, so why not give them a call before you just buy a Ford alphabet cam.
