Trying to remove 5 speed

RE: Trying to remove 5 speed
When I did a clutch change last month, I had no problem, I used a 12" Extention and knocked them loose... They are very tight especially if you have never had them off, they have been frozen for so long, once you literally *crack* them loose, they come right out, with a few hand lascerations that is.. My hands were sore for a few days after all that under the car work. Good luck!

I had the same problem with OB's car when i replaced his clutch and bellhousing. I had to torche out 2 bolts that came from the backhalf of the trans into the bell housing. After i got the trans off, it was smooth sailing from there, but i had all impact tools and everyother ness. tool. The only huge problem was the long tube headers.... everyone make sure you replace youre clutch BEFORE you put long tubes on. lol

lol, hacksaw, chain saw, lol I cant even use a ratchet theres soooooooo little space even with the swivel, the space is so tight, I will take that recommendation for loosening the engine mounts.

RE: Trying to remove 5 speed
i have longtubes and the only way I could get mine out was to take the transmission loose from the bellhousing and then take the bellhousing loose and wiggle it out from inbetween those b*stard long tubes. Have u tried just taking the 4 bolts out that connect the trans to the bell yet? It is definetley the easiest way.

RE: Trying to remove 5 speed
i remember using a few wobble extensions, a universal ,a 1/2 inch ratchet, and a cheater bar. wear some gloves or something so you dont tear your hands all to hell, but you probably already have if you have been messing with it. Good Luck

RE: Trying to remove 5 speed
Actully, I just changed a clutch & pressure plate on a friends 86 GT yesterday & he has longtubes. For the passenger side bolt I took off the elbow that goes from the airbox to the TB & reached behind the intake manifold. For the drivers side one I reached up through the bottom. Both were taken off with just a wrench.
