Silicone on Gaskets??
Hello!!
I am about to do my H/C/I Swap...and I was wondering what gaskets need silicone??
Some say put all gaskets on dry...some say they need silicone as well...which ones need some silicone?
I was thinking valve covers and intake manifold with light silicone...everything else dry....what do you think?

RE: Silicone on Gaskets??
good quality gaskets can be installed dry, every one of them. of course, it never hurts to use a very thin bead of RTV along the edge of them. just be careful not to get silicone in or near the water jackets when you do the WP and timing cover.
never ever use anything on head gaskets, always install them dry

Very thin bead....that is what this guy atNapa was telling me yesterday...he told me a lot of times you will open an Oil pan and find a massive amount of silicone in the screen because they globbed it on their during the install...
I guess it is important to consider that if it seeps out on the outsite, it can do the same on the inside.
