Can anyone tell me why on the theromstat housing there is a direct water hookup. What does it hook up to? I put a rubber cap over it and tightened it with a clamp. Then when I pushed it to the floor in 1'st gear Bam water everywhere. It didn't blow of the clamp it just blew a hole right threw the rubber. It was a brand new rubber cap to. Does anyone know how I can cover this.

 

If you are referring to the smaller hose that goes from the thermostat housing to the water pump... then why the hell would you cap it? It's there for a reason, when the t-stat is closed and the water coming from the block can't pass through it, it has to be diverted to the water pump. It's a bypass hose until the t-stat opens. If you don't have two places to hook a hose to on your water pump, then you have the wrong pump. I can't believe you'd just cap it off and then wonder why it blew off.... wow, if you don't know any better than that, you really shouldn't be doing your own engine work.

 

Damn no wonder I was having cooling problem. What damage can that do on the engine I ran it like that for about 50 miles.

 

If it is not corrected very soon, say bye to the motor, the motor could get to hot, it will eventually mess things up, the water pump should be fine since the lower hose supplies coolant to the water pump.

 

Also makes me wonder what you did with the heater hoses? They too are like a bypass from the intake manifold back to the pump. Theyshould also be relieving some of thedeadhead pressure in the engines coolant passages. Do you have those lines routed to the heater core? Or do you have the core bypassed for heater delete? In addition to the T-stat housing hose to the pump, you must route the heater hoses from the manifold back to the other bung on the pump (either directly or through a heater core).

50 miles is plenty of distance to overheat an engine (specially V8's). Hope all is ok with your motor. Good luck.
