My car whines (rear end) at speeds 50+ when I am not on the accelerator or breaking. I am assuming it's the gears even though I don't know what exactly is installed. So does it make sense that the only time I hear the whine is when I am not accelerating or breaking? Also the sound is a little more than a low hum but that could be because it's a vert with poor weather stripping...

I am scheduled to get 3.73's put in next week and am trying to gather as much info as possible. From reading past posts it sounds like mine are not shimmed correctly unless this sound is from something else?

So you're still on stock gears and nothing's been touched correct?

 

No, I think they have been replaced since my speedometer is 15mph off....

 

The car also seems to get lowe gas mileage at higher speeds than I was expecting.

 

Auto or manual? And do you know what gears are in there?

 

It's an auto and I have no idea what gears are in it nor did the dealer I got it from.

what rpms are you at doing 70 miles per hour if its about 2500 rpms then its 4.10's and if u dont know because of ur speedo being off then jack the rear of the car up and turn the wheel and see how many times the drive shaft spins compared to one full turn of the wheel.... and as for the whine... my rear end does that at 85 and up.....someone told me it was probably because my gears weren't installed right ..and then pinion angle could be messed up ..
