I'd have to guess it would work. Same rear end, except the exploreres are 31 spined. That shouldn't matter with the ring and pinion gears, though.

You can buy a gear kit it's what i have that is sitting in the box (sniff sniff) it will fit a mustang 3.73'sthe part# is5l3z-4209-c comes with the all the bearings you need and 3.55's # is 5l3z-4209-b

You can also get 3.73's out of a 87 or 88 Turbocoupe, the auto cars came w3.73's and the manual cars came with 3.55's.
