Hey guys, I have an 86 GT Vert and it started to have trouble starting today. It just clicks one time and thats it. Then sometimes it'll start. Sometimes when I turn my headlights on they don't come on, then all of a sudden they do. Mynegativewire for my battery is prettychewed up, I taped it up for now but will replace it tomorrow, could that cause it? Its almost like a short, but i'm not sure if the starter relay or starter itself could cause my lights to act up like that. So basically i'm lookin for suggestions on what the hell it could be. Also, there's a green rubber thing attached to my starter relay that has a black wire with an orange stripe on it that just says "Ford" and some numbers on it thats not going anywhere, just hanging there. Anyone know where the hell that goes, or what it is? My digital camera broke or else I would post pics of it. Thanks guys.

Do you hear the fuel pump cut on all the time, or just when it starts???

First things first, change that ground wire. I am willing to bet that would solve your problem. Change it, then update us!

Agreed, replace your ground wire. An intermittent connection in the ground wire could cause those symptoms. I'm not sure about the relay stuff you described.

i agree with the other guys. change the ground cable then see what happens

I'm off to autozone to replace my ground wire. Thanks guys, i'll keep you posted.
