Default Tuning a 94-95 5.0

Hey guys,

I am trying to get my 95 gt project going and just when im getting close i call up a mechanic that my friend who has a pre 94 5.0 reccomended since he has been going to him for years and says that he does great work tells me not to modify a 95 gt because its harder because the computer is very sensitive. Although i have heard of the 95 being sensitive and very picky to mods its not impossible right? I told him that i want to supercharge it and he almost sounded as if he didnt wanna touch it because it was an sn95. How sensitive are these cars, i mean if i were to get headers and x pipe would that require tuning or just things such as an s/c?

Thanks,

the headers and x pipe are not going to give you any computer fits. you will have to tune the car with a s/c installed. talk to samseed101, hes got a 94 gt, s/c, nitrous, and methanol. he also tunes his car himself with the Tweecer R/T. i will be getting that also when i get done with my car.

As stated above, you don't need to tune it if you get new exhaust. Even a supercharger won't be that bad for you. You can do a basic tune when you put the supercharger on (retard timing and mess with fuel pressure a bit.) It's not ethe greatest but it would get the job done.

It's true that the computers are sensative, but it's not that bad unless you do things like swapping out a camshaft to one that isn't deemed "computer friendly."

If you did all of the mods you listed, it should be easily tunable and he should have no problems with it. You can either just retard the timing a bit and adjust your fuel pressure (assuming you have adequate injectors, pump, etc.) or you could get an actual dyno tune and squeeze some more HP out of it. But either way it should be no harder for him to tune that than it would be for him to tune an older Mustang. At least not with those mods.

The camshaft kills the SN95's more than anything. They tend to need camshafts that have a wider lobe separation angle for low overlap, whichgives itbetter vacuum at idle which these cars need.

Speaking of which, this kid i know just installed the TFS top end kit on his '95 GT and after tinkering with the idle and "guessing" at the fuel pressure it runs pretty damn good, idles fine and everything. It's not perfect but it's driveable and doesnt stall.

If you get it tuned then you won't have any problems at all. As long as they do it right.

if you dyno tune they can work with the computer. i had a very aggressive cam in my old gt and was unable to have it tuned. believe me the car will let you know with the idle surging

so you basically can't put a h/c/i kit in a 95?? or if you did then it would run like ****??

You can change the H/C/I in an SN95. You just have to make sure you get a tune so that it can run properly. Sometimes it's a very simple easy tune (especially if you get a computer friendly camshaft) and other times it may be more difficult. If you try to to too aggressive, then you may run into issues.
