Default Thrown Rod??

OK...have a problem...

Finished the H/C/I...Started her up...set the timing, TPS...fuel pressure...everything seemed OK.

I had a little exhaust leak and the lifters where tapping. My buddy, (who had is car on the cover of 5.0Mustang Magazine), said that the tapping is normal...it is just the lifters breaking in...

Ok...not bad, but today I took it out, and BANG!!!!

I have a random bang that sounds like someone is banging a hammer against the valve covers...thrown rod? Blown pushrod?? What do you think??

OK...update...

First of all, that guy is coming over later so hopefully he'll havea fix...

but we listened to it somemore...it is not coming from the valve covers...it is coming from the top/middle of the upper intake...

It sounds like someone is hitting the center of the intake with a hammer...random too

Any ideas??

The springs are right for the cam?(ie, it's not likely a broken spring?) Is it a roller cam? You put the link bars and valley spring back in if it is, right? Do a compression leakdown test too, see if you have any dead cylinders. Rocker arms installed properly, and preload on the lifters is set? Does it run like crap/rough, or just make noise?

You got it Zach...Rocker was loose...so no exhaust was able to escape. Instead, it backfired throught the intake!

We got it fixed...and she is purring like a kitten And let me tell you...WHOA she is FAST!!!
