Default T-5 shot, options?

I got a Ford Motorsports T-5 with the 2.95 first gear and really like it. Problem is, it grinds into most gears and third is really whiney. It also goes into gear a little rough even if it doesn't grind. It seems these transmissions are hard to come by used and I really want to keep my ratios. What should I do? btw I have never taken a trans apart so would be a total rebuild noob.

astro performance can set you up w/ a nice rebuild kit with stronger internals. the cost is cheaper than a new trans and less of a hassle than buying a tremec and all the supporting stuff. if youve never been in a t5 before, it can be done by any weekend mechanic, as long as you have some kind of mustang manual that shows you how to break one down., i think the only hard part is you have to press a bearing or gear onto one of the shafts, but if you bring the stuff to a local shop, they should do it for like a couple bucks. if you go this route, just take your time and follow the manual and youll be fine

I got a Ford Motorsports T-5 with the 2.97 first gear and really like it. Problem is, it grinds into most gears and third is really whiney. dude that doesnt sound like a trans problem sounds like your clutch is going bad or just needs to get adjusted. if you have the stock clutch quadrant stick your foot under the clutch peddle and pull up on it till it clicks and doesnt move anymore. push it back down to the floor do this 10 times see if that helps

I have messed around with the cable and quadrant already. Replaced all the stock stuff with a a 3 hook quad and steeda adjustable cable. Disengages early too so I know that part is fine. I'll check out astroperformance.
