machine work Question?
i am probably buying a block so i can get my motor all done and then just take it apart and switch instead of taking my motor out doing the machine work ,putting together. so i am probably buying this motor from this guy off craigs list . my question i already bought my pistons (DSS forged pistons) .30 so i need the block
block bored to .030 over
crank turned to .10/.10 already have bearings
new arp rod bolts installed and rods balanced
cam bearings installed
hot tanked
what else and how much for that generally

RE: machine work Question?
sounds about right to me, if its not some crazy race motor thats all you will need. i havent had a block gone over in years and years, but im gonna guess you should be between 3-400 with that stuff?

RE: machine work Question?
good machine work will run you $500 for the bore and hone, cleaning, new cam bearings and freeze plugs
about $300 for balancing, and youd be stupid not to do it while installing new pistons
and probably another $200 for the arp belt install and turning the crank....
so your looking around $1000 done RIGHT

RE: machine work Question?
I dont think you really need to worry about line boring the block.... and if you were going to. I would recommend getting a new crank anyway... im not a fan of ground cranks. Its not that they are weaker, or going to fail.. I just prefer new stuff over fixed old stuff!

RE: machine work Question?
Adder's price estimates are close, I agree with that. However, if the motor is already assembled (I.E. not an aftermarket block that has never been machined) then no line boring is needed unless there has been a crankshaft or bearing failure then I would do that. Just so you will know all cranks are finished ground and lapped so nothing to worry about there and there is nothing wrong with a crankshaft that has been re-worked, ithappens all the time. I live in Texas so I may be of no real help to you as far as where to send it.
