tach stuck
Ok, the gas got stuck on my mustang and it redlined and I just shut the car down, the engine is fine started up and all that, the whole thing for was like maximum 15 secs, I dont understand how the gas pedal got stuck, it was somewhere near the throttle body and I turned the cable once at the throttle body and it released. But now the tach is maxed out, way past 7, what to do now? I was thinking opening up the gauges and turn the needle back to zero and start the car and see if it works.Any thoughts?

RE: tach stuck
Welp, it's happend to me once before too.
Try turning it on and tapping the plastic near the tach.
It worked for me, or you could try cutting the power to the battery while it's on.
That worked for me as well...
(battery shutoff switch)

RE: tach stuck
i was goin down the freeway and my car tached out twice on me... two different times... the second time it happend i realized that my floormat was the cause of it, and it pined the gas pedal to the floor, so i threw that damn thing out... never happend since, maybe thats what happend do you, gotta floormat? as for the tach if bangin on it dont help, you could try and take it apart... shouldnt take no longer then minutes... maybe you'll get lucky

RE: tach stuck
tapping on the face of the instrument cluster over the tach should knock the tach needle loose, do it with engine idling so the magnetic field can get ahold of it and pull it back down where it belongs. I'd also check the throttle cable and gas pedal for binding or anything that could hang the throttle open like this and correct the problem so it don't happen again.
