Default AKWARD OVERHEAT?

Alright so i was driving today and noticed the temperature gauge slowly go up.
I always thought you turn your heat on to bring the temperature down a bit.
so i do that, full blast, and the guage creeps faster to almost overheating.
after i turned the heat off, it cooled back down

wtf? common problem?

It's true that if you turn your heat on it will help cool it down but I have never heard of it rising faster are you sure your gauge is correct!!!

to my knowledge the gauge is working correctly.....
there is a very small coolent leak i've noticed, so i checked it out and i was low, but quickly corrected that and filled it up.
havin the car only a few weeks i know i'm bound to run into problems like this.
is it common for the t-stat to get "stuck" or close if its already opened up during normal driving?

I bought my mustang a few weeks ago, the car would overheat if I let it. The car was overpressuring the cooling system which was letting coolent go into the overflow bottle. It turned out to be a leaking headgasket leaking exhaust into the coolent which was adding pressure to the system and causing the over heating, just thought i'd let you know the problem I had. Good luck

Yup t-stat go bad all the time you can pick one up at a vato aka auto zone for like 6 bucks or so wouldn't hurt to try or you can test your old one which isn't worth it!!!!!
